Hi all,
Another interesting Article courtesy of Barry Clarke. Ireland’s Renewable Energy Targets for 2020.
The headline figure always talked about is 40% renewable energy by 2020, however the figure is actually a lot less impressive when you look at it in a little more detail. The 40% is for only one component of our total energy usage. Its only a target of 16% of total Energy usage by 2020.
Sector | Target for 2020 |
Electricity | 40% |
Heating & Cooling | 12% |
Transport | 10% |
Overall Target | 16% |

On our current course we are still well below this modest goal.
Hi I would like to start a blog on how householders can be your own energy manager. We as a family two adults two children have been designating each member of family to be energy manager for 3 months at a time. The saving generated are then given to that member as payment. It works great with the kids and adults to. Alex 11 years old is currently switching off all unnecessary lights and standby equipment (evil red eye as known in our house) in anticipation of a payback that will see him through PUCK FAIR!
Will aim to give monthly energy saving tips starting in August and updates on how we are progressing as a family. Also to received feedback and suggestion from the wider Transition movement.
Please let me know if there is interest in such an idea.
Regards Barry
